Born in Buenos Aires to an Italian mother and an Argentinian father, his childhood and adolescence happen in Trieste and Milan, Italy. In 1937, she left Italy to Paris and met André Breton and the surrealists. Leonor Fini loved cats, she painted many paintings and drew several sketches and watercolors in homage to cats. In 1977, she even devoted an entire book dedicated to his passion for felines, cats mirror.

His first monographic exhibition was held in New York in 1939. From 1939 to his death, there were more than 45 solo exhibitions in Europe and the United States. Several retrospectives have been devoted in Belgium (1965), Tokyo (1972) and Paris (1986).
